Derby City Council is undertaking an extensive plan to regenerate the Becketwell area of Derby. This six-acre abandoned site, accounting for 5% of the city centre, is undergoing a transformation into a diverse mixed-use project, serving as a substantial effort to create a vibrant and inviting space. This 259-unit, 11-store development became Derby’s first purpose-built ‘Built to Rent (BTR)’ scheme in the City and the first phase of the larger regeneration programme in the City centre

Challenges

One of the major challenges faced on the project was the need to provide both the tenants and the operators of the building with a variety of functional roof spaces. With the need for both social and industrial functions having to be considered, the project required the delivery of a variety of roof types that could accommodate outdoor terraces, plant and equipment and areas where excessive industrial loads were housed.

Solution

This project allowed us to demonstrate our capabilities and flexibility as system providers. We were able to utilise a range of Waterproofing solutions that met the various requirements on this roof. Our second-generation Hot-Melt system provided a robust and reliable inverted roof solution that was designed to accommodate increased loadings and last the lifetime of the building. Other roof areas required modified bitumen membrane and Single Ply PVC membrane in conjunction with Tapered Insulation allowing low door thresholds to be addressed whilst still providing drainage and meeting stringent thermal requirements.
