Adhesives

MOY offers a range of high-performance adhesives designed to meet the specific needs of different roofing applications.

Where selected, and where appropriate, some or all of the layers within the roof system may be bonded, subject to wind uplift. Whilst traditional bituminous systems are often torch-applied, or bonded with hot bitumen compounds, many systems require the use of cold-applied methods, such as self-adhesive membranes or cold-applied adhesives.

These cold-applied adhesives are generally solvent or polyurethane (PU) based and may be applied either by spray, roller, or simply pouring from a tin with a spout. Water-based adhesive are available, but are generally not suited to colder climates. Each type will have its own qualities, so selection of the correct type of adhesive is crucial.

Moy adhesives, where specified, form a critical part of the system and are a requirement as part of the Moy Warranty.

Coverboards

Coverboards are crucial in enhancing the performance and longevity of roofing systems. They provide additional protection, stability, and support, ensuring that the roofing materials function optimally over time.

Coverboards are usually specified to add structural strength and durability to the roof build-up. Moy can include AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Rooftop, a lightweight cement board made of aggregated Portland cement with coated glass fibre mesh embedded in the front and back surfaces.

It is moisture and mold resistant, non-combustible (A1) and robust, adding strength and durability to the entire roofing system.

12.5mm thick and available in various board sizes it meets the requirements of category D, class 2 in compliance with EN 12467.

Recommended for accessible roofs with high compressive strength, it can be installed over a profiled steel deck, providing a substrate for the vapour barrier or a base for installers to work on.

It can also be installed as a thermal barrier beneath the waterproofing, to protect the roof insulation below, reduce stresses imposed on the waterproofing and add strength to the entire roof system, especially for accessible and ballasted roofs.

Thermal Insulation

At MOY, we offer a comprehensive range of high-performance insulation systems designed to meet the diverse needs of modern roofing projects. Our insulation products are engineered to deliver superior thermal efficiency, durability, and compliance with the latest industry standards, ensuring optimal performance and longevity for your roofing solutions.

Thermal insulation is an essential component within a warm roof system and will generally be a requirement for both New Build & Refurbishment projects, under the appropriate Building Regulations (Part L Conservation of Fuel & Power, England & Wales), Section 6 (Energy) of the Technical Handbooks (Scotland) and TGD Part L Conservation of Fuel & Energy (Ireland).

The purpose is to control and maintain the temperature of the heated and/or habited buildings. It’s important to ensure a sufficient thickness of insulation is installed in order to meet the applicable U-value requirements and to mitigate condensation, all as per the appropriate Building Regulations and Local legislation, depending on the project location.

Fasteners

Fasteners are essential components in roofing systems, ensuring that roofing materials remain securely attached and perform effectively under various conditions. At MOY, we offer a range of high-quality fasteners designed to meet the demands of different roofing applications.

Mechanical Fasteners are an effective alternative option for securing components within a roof system. Ensuring wind uplift compliance.

Depending on the wind loads calculated and the roof system being specified, some mechanical fasteners may be required in high wind load areas of a roof, for certain layers of the roof build-up only, or for the entire roof system.

Some systems may only use fasteners for securing the thermal insulation boards and/or coverboards to the roof deck. In other systems, such as Single Ply, the waterproofing membrane itself may be secured using mechanical fasteners and appropriate membrane washers.

Depending on the deck type, mechanical fastening can be a faster, more efficient way of installing the roof. However, in other applications, such as where there is concrete, or other deck types, it may not be the preferred method of installation.

A variety of threaded screw fasteners are available to suit most decks, from timber, steel and concrete fasteners, to those for more unusual decks such as lightweight concrete or wood wool.

In order to reduce the effects of cold bridging (heat loss), through the steel fasteners in the thermal insulation, recent years has seen the introduction and widespread use of thermally broken fasteners.

These sleeves are manufactured from high-quality plastic and are available with and without integral washers for attaching both insulation and waterproofing membrane, when used in conjunction with the appropriate steel screws.  This ensures that the plastic sleeve, which has a lower thermal conductivity than steel, sits within the insulation zone of the roof build-up, thus reducing the cold bridging effect in the roof and providing an improved thermal performance from a lesser thickness of insulation.

Moy provide the necessary fastener solutions, along with any service related support, such as wind uplift calculations and on-site pull-out testing or troubleshooting.

Moy fasteners, where specified, form a critical part of the system and are a requirement as part of the Moy Warranty.

AVCL

The purpose of the air and vapour control layer (AVCL) is to provide a barrier, to reduce or control the passage of air and moisture vapour, passing through from within the building, up into the roofing system.

Any moisture vapour within the roof, can potentially form interstitial condensation within the layers of the roof construction, if the temperature falls below the dew point.

The AVCL will also help seal the roof, forming an air barrier to reduce the levels of air leakage from the building, as per the recommendations set out within the appropriate Building Regulations (Part L Conservation of Fuel & Power, England & Wales), Section 6 (Energy) of the Technical Handbooks (Scotland) and TGD Part L Conservation of Fuel & Energy (Ireland).

Various types of AVCL can be utilised depending on the system, from traditional styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) and a-tactic polypropylene ( APP) modified bituminous torch-applied membranes, to self-adhesive bitumen modified or Polyethylene (High Density) HDPE products. In mechanically fastened or loose laid roofing systems and where the building’s humidity levels are ‘normal’, Polyethylene AVCL’s may also be considered.

High humidity buildings, such as swimming pools, laundries, sports halls, kitchens, canteens, school classrooms or other ‘special’ buildings, aluminium foil lined, or foil faced AVCL’s must be utilised. Refer to the latest version of BS EN 5250 for guidance.

Moy AVCL’s, when specified, form a critical part of the system and are a requirement as part of the Moy Warranty.
